AI Tech Support Phone Agent for Software and Hardware Companies

Tech support for the calls your queue can't absorb. The agent answers in plain language, identifies the caller, walks them through setup and login fixes, texts the right help article or reset link, files a ticket when the issue needs an engineer, and transfers to a live rep with a briefing when the fix needs hands on the screen. Start with the call types that repeat most and widen from there.
Trusted by over 4,000 businesses powering 100+ million calls per month.
How It Works

Set up AI tech support for your product in four stages, from your support playbook to resolved calls on your existing number.

Write your support playbook
Turn your top call types, such as can't log in, can't join a meeting, device setup, and billing questions, into instructions and a knowledge base, then connect your helpdesk and account system through native integrations or custom functions.
Test on real support calls
Run simulated calls with a locked-out user, an angry caller, someone who needs a remote session, and a question your knowledge base doesn't cover, and grade every run before a customer calls.
Connect your number
Keep your existing support number by importing it over a SIP trunk or forwarding it from your carrier, and choose whether the agent answers every call, overflow, or after hours only.
Go live and track resolution
Every call returns a transcript and the fields you define, such as issue type, resolved, ticket created, and transferred, so you can see which problems the agent closes and which keep reaching your team.
Use Cases

Tech support calls resolved, ticketed, or handed to the right person

Frustrated woman with her hands in her hair in front of a laptop
Troubleshooting walked through by voice

Need the common fixes handled without a rep on every call. The agent asks what the caller is seeing, then talks them through the steps you write, such as which browser setting to open, which device light to check, or how to rejoin a meeting. It answers follow-up questions from a knowledge base you control, so it stays on the fixes you have approved.

Smartphone on a wooden table showing a notification on its lock screen
Login problems and password resets

Need locked-out users back in quickly. The agent confirms who is calling, then texts a reset link or a help article during the call, with variables such as the caller's name filled in. If your account system has an API, a custom function can trigger the reset itself. Texting from your own number needs it registered for texting, and the agent can ask for consent first.

Two customer support agents wearing headsets working at desks
Caller identified and ticket filed in your helpdesk

Need every call on the record without a rep typing it up. With the native Zendesk integration the agent finds the caller by phone number, reads their open tickets, opens a new ticket with a summary of the problem, and adds the call outcome as a comment or private note. Salesforce is a native integration too, for contacts, accounts, and cases, and other helpdesks connect through custom functions or webhooks.

Support agent wearing a headset reviewing a case with a colleague
Hands-on problems passed to a person, with context

Need the agent to know what a voice call can't fix. Problems that need a remote session or someone looking at the screen go to your team by warm transfer, which briefs the rep privately on who is calling and what has been tried. Where nobody is available, the agent can file a ticket and promise a callback instead.

Hand holding a smartphone showing a chart
Account questions answered from your own data

Need answers about the caller's account, not generic ones. A custom function calls your own API during the call, for example to look up a plan, a recent withdrawal, or a verification status, and the agent uses the response in its answer. Your team, a Retell solution partner, or our team builds each connection once.

Three support colleagues smiling, two of them wearing headsets
Spikes, after hours, and every language you support

Need support that does not depend on who is on shift. Callers during a release, an outage, or a late-night problem are answered in parallel, with no hold music and no press-1 menu. Choose the language and voice per agent and test the accent on simulated calls before launch. Teams that want the same coverage for the whole queue can start from AI customer support for SaaS.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Does Retell work with Zendesk, Intercom, or Freshdesk?

Zendesk is a native integration: the agent can identify the caller by phone number, read and update their tickets, create new ones, and add public comments or private notes. Salesforce is native too, for contacts, leads, accounts, opportunities, and cases. Intercom, Freshdesk, and other helpdesks do not have a prebuilt connector. They connect through custom functions that call their API during the call, or through webhooks that send the outcome after the call.

Can the agent handle remote desktop or screen-sharing support?

No, a phone call can't see the caller's screen. The agent covers what can be solved by voice, such as login problems, setup steps, and account questions, and transfers the rest to your team with a briefing so the rep starts with the context. You decide which problems count as hands-on in the agent's instructions.

Can the agent reset a password or change account settings?

It can text a reset link or help article during the call. If your account system exposes an API, a custom function can trigger the reset or read the account status directly. You decide which actions the agent may take and what it must confirm first, and you test those paths on simulated calls before going live.

What happens when the agent doesn't know the answer?

It answers only from the instructions and knowledge base you provide. When a question falls outside them, the agent says it will connect the caller to a person or log a ticket, and the call is recorded with a field you define so you can see which gaps keep coming up and add them to the knowledge base.

How much does AI tech support cost on Retell?

Retell voice agents are priced per minute of conversation, from $0.07 per minute, depending on the language model, voice, and telephony you choose. Pay-as-you-go needs no contract, and Enterprise plans have custom pricing for high volume or custom deployment needs. See pricing for your mix.

How is this different from a support chatbot or an IVR menu?

A chatbot types and a phone menu asks the caller to press a number. The agent speaks with the caller, understands the problem in their own words, works through the fix, and writes the outcome to your helpdesk. Callers who would have waited on hold or abandoned the call get an answer, and your reps see fewer repeat problems.
