Introducing Conversation Memory

Agents can now remember a caller across conversations, with no extraction workflows, storage or retrieval logic on your side.

  • Per-agent toggle: saving and recall are separate settings, so an agent can save, recall, or both.
  • A running brief, not a transcript: Retell keeps a short brief for each contact with preferences, what has been discussed, and what still needs follow-up. Resolved items drop out.
  • Phone calls and SMS: the brief updates after every completed phone call and SMS chat matched to the contact by phone number. Web calls and web chats do not update it.
  • Skip what's already known: Conversation and Subagent nodes get a Use memory to skip this node option, so agents stop asking what the brief already answers.
  • Full control: view, edit or clear briefs in Contacts. The Memory prompt is customizable per workspace, and a backfill builds briefs from earlier eligible calls.
  • Privacy and pricing: Memory follows your storage and PII redaction settings. Saving and backfilling cost $0.005 per run.
