Get API credentials from Epic β usually an API key or OAuth client from your account or your IT team.
In Retell, open your agent and go to Functions β Add custom function.
Enter the endpoint URL and method, and add your credentials as headers.
Define the parameters the agent should collect from the caller and pass through.
Write the description that tells the agent when to call the function β this is what the model uses to decide.
Test it in the LLM playground, check the response parses, then publish.
Patient calls to confirm an appointment β agent calls your FHIR endpoint β reads back the date and location β logs the interaction
Epic access is controlled by your organization. Scope, credentials and PHI handling go through your Epic integration team before anything is built.
